About the Course
Embark on a transformative journey with our 2-hour asynchronous course focused on Reduced Constraint Locomotor Therapy. For a limited time, this CEU-compliant course is being offered for free. After completing the course, learners will be sent a CEU-compliant Certificate of Completion that can be used for 2-hours of CEU credit. Module 1 - Survey existing clinical methods that use constraints in physical therapy. Module 2 - Take a look into real physical therapy sessions. This module details the clinical decisions and the seven-step process that can be used with patients to improve gait. Module 3 - Take a guided tour through the research that led to the development of Reduced Constraint Locomotor Therapy...from the mechanisms of neural plasticity, neural anatomy and the special neural control of rhythmic movements. This module will reinforce techniques employed in module 2. Module 4 - Look under the hood at the research and development of Reduced Constraint Locomotor Therapy from the MIT Skywalker feasibility study to variable friction pilot and ongoing clinical trial. This module will also reinforce techniques employed in module 2.
Meet Your Instructors
Join forces with Meagan George, PT, DPT, NCS and Tyler Susko, PhD as they lead this engaging course. Meagan's hands-on approach as a physical therapist and Tyler's deep knowledge in research bring a unique blend of expertise to the curriculum.
Dr. Meagan George
Meagan is a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and Board Certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS) who treats individuals with a variety of neurologic conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease, Stroke, Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries, Multiple Sclerosis, and Vestibular and Balance Disorders. Meagan earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from San Diego State University in 2017. She started her career working at a nationally ranked hospital in a variety of settings including acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient neurological rehab before co-founding NeuroLab 360, a non-profit outpatient rehab clinic that serves a wide variety of individuals with neurologic conditions outside of the limitations of the insurance based medical model.
Dr. Tyler Susko
Tyler is a Teaching Professor at the University of California Santa Barbara and the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Cadense, Inc. He holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Mechanical Engineering. His doctoral work focused on the development and study of a novel device to administer gait therapy for individuals with neurological disease or injury, called the MIT Skywalker. Once reaching UCSB, Dr. Susko spent the next ten years transitioning the learnings of the Skywalker into a practical and accessible embodiment, leading to the invention of the variable friction shoe and the method of reduced constraint locomotor therapy.
